As part of the activities for 2023-2024 of the ICESCO-EUROMED Chair "Arts, Societies, and Civilizations," a Masterclass was held on Wednesday, October 18th, 2023, led by Mrs. Rajae Talbi (poet, writer, and translator) on the theme "Translation and the Dialogue of Cultures."
The discussion initiated by her reflection revolved around crucial questions:
1.The role of translation in the construction of peace, the growth of intercultural understanding, and the transmission of knowledge.
2.The practice of translation as a process that works on one's self-perception and the perception of others.
3.The demands and requirements of translation on both the translator and the reader.
The open discussion with students of the Translation program allowed for a more in-depth exploration of these areas of reflection. It also addressed issues such as the challenges of translation in the era of AI, the impact of social media on languages, and the isolation experienced by translators who must constantly innovate their own tools.
This Masterclass functioned as a genuine laboratory for the analysis of translation mechanisms and their epistemological foundations.
