Workshops

In the framework of the partnerships of the EuromedUniversity of Fez with the international academic world, itsSchool of Architecture, Design and Urbanism (EMADU) and the Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design "John H. Daniels" of the University of Toronto are organisingfrom May 8 to June 16, 2023, a joint course in architecture For the first time, this course proposes a summer architecture studio on the African continent, with a complete immersion in the site of their interventions, Canadian students, Sierra Leoneanstudents (FourahBayCollege), EMADU students and otherstudentsfrom the Commune of Fez Medina as well as craftsmen and women.

This workshop takes place in the Riad of the EuromedUniversitylocated in the heart of the medina of Fez, an open-air museum city thatrepresents a living testimony of a flourishingmedieval city that has influenced the development of architecture, art, urban planning, science and other disciplines. This first experienceis an opportunity for all the students of thesethreeuniversities to understand the oldestmedina in the world, "Fez":itsurbanfabric, its architecture, itscrafts, its social practices and its public space.

The workshop isimagined as a series of dialogues betweenstudents, experts and local actors of the Medina of Fez. Conceived in a transversal way, associatingundergraduate and graduatestudentsfrom the threeschools of architecture, this Workshop will focus on the conception of new typologies of public spaces in the Medina of Fez, through the development of acupuncturalurbanstrategies and small-scale architectural proposals for public micro-spaces.

In parallel to the workshop, threecolloquiawillbeheld at EMADU to accompany the practicalwork, with international and national guests on the followingthemes: Collaborative Design Tools, CircularEconomy and Adaptive Reuse of Heritage.
